This form of the verb conjugator will allow you to see the five forms of any verb in the English language. The English verb system looks deceptively easy with its five forms when you compare it to many languages that have up to 50 forms of every verb. One problem with English is making this reduced set of verb forms do the job of conveying all the tenses and moods needed in communication. Another problem with English is that you don't have a clear set of "regular verbs". The verbs live and walk serve as models for a very large number of verbs. You will need to master most of the list of 100 model verbs in order to communicate effectively in English. A few of the models are rare verbs, but most are used in everyday English.
A verb form is generally accompanied with a noun or pronoun that serves as its subject. The only place in the system where the verb form has to be adjusted to agree with its subject is in the third person singular of the present tense: "I walk" versus "he or she or it walks".

This form of the conjugator gives you the ability to see how any given verb combines its five principal parts with helping words to assemble verbal phrases that express the interrogative, negative, continuous forms, and much more.

You will need to pick the region where you plan to use your English: American or British world English.
- Model Verbs
You will find a model of every variation of how the five principal parts are formed. Native speakers are used to memorizing three of the five forms, and are hardly aware of the other two. In school students are taught the 3 principal parts of about 100 verbs that serve as models for other verbs that are spelled (but not necessarily pronounced) in the same way.

Kenneth Bryant was chairman of the Department of Modern Languages at Southern Nazarene University in Oklahoma for eleven years. His experience with the Spanish language began early in his life. He lived in Guatemala from ages eight to sixteen, and lived in Mexico for another two years. He has a M.A. in Romance Languages and Literature from the University of Michigan and a PhD in Administration of Higher Education from Boston College. The idea of the verb wheels began in the 1980s when computers were beginning to be applied to problems in the humanities. Without the graphic and organizational powers of the computer it would have been impossible to put these verb wheels together. More recently he has developed software for school management. In 1997 he developed the Univisor, a computer-aided academic advising system and online enrollment package which takes a narrative approach to describing curriculum, rather than the usual table-driven approaches in the market today. This approach allows precision and flexibility in describing graduation requirements, course prerequisites, and other graduation tasks in an highly individualized style that enables students to make informed decisions at each juncture of their academic pursuits. |
